CBC 2016 is long gone which means we’ve had time to catch our breath and reflect on the whirlwind of activity we experienced in the city of brotherly love. Here’s what we learned at CBC 2016

1.     CBC 2016 Was the Biggest Yet

13,600 attendees and 835 exhibitors to be exact. Some felt the Expo was less crowded, most likely due to the increased square footage, so attendees had more room to wander.

2.      OBeer the “Industry Standard” for Brewery Software

In the session titled “10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Becoming a Craft Brewing CFO”, OrchestratedBEER was the second most common accounting solution to QuickBooks by a show of hands.

Explore our OBeer community map, chances are you’ll find a brewery near you that left the generic bookkeeping software behind in exchange for a truly automated accounting system that helps them “Connect the Dots” in their brewery.

3.     “You Get What You Pay For” – The Significance of Quality

This is Claudia, one of our very talented implementation consultants. When Claudia wasn’t giving demos, she received hugs from customers excited about their OBeer implementation and “going live”.

We finally gained a deeper understanding of their excitement through several long conversations. Many were jaded by other brewery software solutions, their lack of training options, unfulfilled promises, minimal support and lack of functionality to solve the challenges breweries face. This all led to countless hours lost trying to “connect the dots.”

OBeer provided a reliable solution to these previously unsolved challenges, and team members like Claudia were there to walk them through it.

If you’re going to implement software in your brewery, no matter what it is, you’re going to need a proven implementation plan and an experienced team to train and support you from start to finish.

4.    The Value of Solid Partnerships

OBeer can do it all, but we also rely on partners like HighJump, ShipCompliant, Baker Tilly and others to help fully optimize and extend OBeer through integrations.

The joint CBC 2016 happy hour with our friends from HighJump provided a prime opportunity for OBeer customers to gain advice and insights into everything from managing beer clubs to route accounting and warehouse management. Big thanks to HighJump and others for fostering this growing community.

5.    The OBeer Customer Panel Packed the House

Approximately 150 people packed the room to hear “How Breweries Use OBeer”, Back Forty Beer Co., Dark Horse, Big Storm, Braxton and Cigar City addressed detailed accounts of how OBeer provided a better grasp on the business side of making great beer.

Topics ranged from inventory & TTB reporting to production scheduling and successful audits. The overall consensus was that OBeer provides breweries a better sense of the business than ever before.

6.    The Growing “Brewstillery” Model

The emergence of column stills and distillery equipment alongside the fermenters is a newer development at CBC as an increasing number of breweries explore the “Brewstillery” concept. For this reason, we launched our sister product in ‘15 called OrchestratedSPIRITS, which uses the same Orchestrated platform and proven processes, adapted for craft distilleries.

7.    More OBeer Customers Win at World Beer Cup

CBC 2016 also hosted the World Beer Cup, in which brewers from 55 countries competed in “the Olympics of Beer.” 1,907 breweries entered 6,596 beers, judged by an elite international panel of 253 judges. 24 OrchestratedBEER customers took home some hardware, which further validates that “The Best Craft Breweries Run OrchestratedBEER”. 8.     “We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Booth…”

We’ve come a long way from a single 6’ table setup at the 2011 Craft Brewer’s Conference in San Francisco. Back then there were around 1,700 breweries in the U.S, we were 1 of 200 vendors (there were 835 this year), and the entire exhibit hall fit in the 3 ballrooms of a Hilton Hotel. 6 years later, we’re providing impromptu demos of the software on 4 screens inside a massive 20’x 20’ booth. The booth traffic increases every year as more breweries start to recognize the importance of selecting the right brewery management software as the core foundation of their business. We hope to see you next year, April 10-13, 2017 in Washington D.C.
